Great Tasting Fundraising
2010 to 2014
Hosted by Alexander's Angels to raise funds for Down syndrome research. Team captains volunteered to manage the activities at different local Friendly’s. Locations varied through the years including one in Avon, CT.
2012 - Theme: Building Our Future
After signing and asking our participants to join the successful petition to the UN by DSi to proclaim 3/21 World Down Syndrome Day, we held our event in NYC to coincide with the program taking place at the UN headquarter. The event included our 5th DOWNrightART exhibition. An opening reception welcomed artists from the UK, Australia, Puerto Rico, Alaska, and more! A Self-Advocates panel, a sibling panel, a movie, a presentation by Dr. Michael Harpold on the progress of Down syndrome research, and a concert by Chris Burke and his band were also part of the 3-day program.
2013 - Theme: Right To Work
In addition to the fundraiser at several Friendly's, we attended a NY Islanders game at Nassau Coliseum. Our group was so large that we had to be split for the photograph on the ice!
2014 - Theme: Health and Wellbeing, Access and Equality for All
An exciting Event at the Performing Arts Center of Adelphi University, cohosted by Alexander’s Angels and the Down Syndrome Advocacy Foundation (DSAF), began at the Concert Hall with the symposium "Why is Down Syndrome Important?" by Michael Harpold, PhD; Xiao-Fei Kong, MD, PhD, and Patricia White, MD. A reception followed. "Let the Angels In," choreographed by Juliet Dolan, put the final touch to the celebration with a fun program that included dance and the modeling pageant "2Glitter" by Miss Margie.
2015 - Theme: My Opportunities, My Choice
Exhibition at Castello DiBorghese Vineyard Terracotta Gallery followed by dinner at Macari Vineyards. Next day we visited the L.I. Aquarium.
2016 - Theme: My Friends, My Community
Celebration at Broadway Commons in Hicksville organized by Alexander's Angels Youth/Self-Advocate Group, founded in 2015. With participation by ACDS Let's Groove Zumba Group, the event was attended by NY State Senator Jack Martins, and Nassau County Legislators Rose Marie Walker and Laura Schaefer.

Celebrating WDSD at L.I. Wine Country included Alexander's Angels DOWNrightART Exhibition at Castello DiBorghese Vineyard Terracotta Gallery, and... (cont.)
2017 - Theme: My Voice, My Community
... dinner/dance/raffles at Macari Vineyards. Self-Advocate Katherine Giunta said: "I have been part of the Alexander’s Angels organization as a Youth Self Advocate. On March 18 and 19, we celebrated Down Syndrome Awareness Day. My family and I danced the night away at the Macari Vineyard after enjoying a delicious dinner. I especially enjoyed the raffles and went home winning two baskets. I had an amazing time with my friends and even met some new friends. Thank you, Alexander’s Angels." And the fun... (cont.)
2017 - Theme: My Voice, My Community
... a second day of Celebration at L.I. Wine Country included a visit to the L.I. Aquarium with participation from Star Wars and performance by a group of young musicians.
2018 - Theme: #WhatIBringToMyCommunity
Fun event at Broadway Commons organized by the Alexander's Angels Youth/Self-Advocates included learning how to make pretzels with Auntie Anne, an informal DOWNrightART Exhibition, raffles, food tasting, face painting, dances, arts & crafts... and more! And a fun Paint Nite at 8 p.m. on WDSD at Buffalo Wild Wings organized by Shane's Shining Stars for Alexander's Angels!
2019 - Theme: #LeaveNoOneBehind
On March 16 Alexander's Angels invited the Long Island community to begin the WDSD celebration at the Broadway Commons. In anticipation to the conference that took place three days later, Dr. Xiao-Fei Kong gave a short report on the research talking place at Rockefeller University. The Down Syndrome Advocacy Foundation (DSAF) engaged the audience with a guessing game. The activities continued, not only that afternoon but even further... (cont.)

... On March 17, a group gathered at the Main Event in Farmingdale for a fun Wood Pallet Sign Fundraiser by Paint Party Long Island! (cont.)

... And, on March 20, the WDSD celebration concluded with a conference on the progress of Down syndrome research at NYU Langone Hospital in Mineola was followed by a dinner at Lisbon Cafe in Jericho where Sujeet Desai delighted the guests with his music.
2020 - Theme: We Decide
All planned events were canceled. The DOWNrightART EXHIBITION had already been installed to start Monday, March 9 but never officially opened.
2021 - Theme: #Connect
Virtual Event Organized by Alexander's Angels - Hosted and Sponsored by CEC.
2022 - Theme: #InclusionMeans
Long Island Celebrates! WDSD honored inclusion with a lively event. Even Sparky the NY Islanders dragon visited the Arts & Crafts table during the event at Simon Roosevelt Field. A Virtual Conference on the Progress of Down Research jointly provided by NYU L.I. School of Medicine and Alexander's Angels took place two days later.
